What is Laser Periodontal Therapy™?

Simply stated, this laser procedure,  LANAP,  takes the place of the surgery I did with my scalpel, sutures and various bone grafting materials.  I like it since its gentler for my patient and less stressful for me. My results are not compromised. Treating gum disease is about management.  I also charge less for this procedure than I did for scalpel surgery with bone grafting.  There is no magic cure but with proper care you can keep your teeth and enjoy a reasonable level of health. Laser Periodontal Therapy™ is a laser based technique for the treatment of periodontal disease using the Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc., PerioLaser Laser. Fear of periodontal treatment vanishes when patients find out no scalpel or sutures will be used. Patient friendly laser treatment gets patients to agree to the treatment they need and continue with the follow-up care that is prescribed.
Our office is one of the first in the area to offer Laser Periodontal Therapy™ for the treatment of gingivitis and/or periodontitis.  I love this procedure so much that I spent an additional year studying and training to  become an instructor of the technique.  I figured everyone would be getting this laser.  I still believe it should be the standard of care for periodontitis.  There is research showing the effectiveness of this procedure and it is a scientifically based technique which is FDA approved.
